Welcome to Amnesty Canterbury where you’ll find news and information on our past, present, and future campaigns.
We are part of the organisation Amnesty International UK, standing up for human rights across the world – wherever justice, freedom, fairness and truth are denied.
Please see our Campaigns page and Urgent Actions for actions you can take now to support people at risk – these will be updated regularly.
We also sponsor a perpetual candle for Amnesty International at Canterbury Cathedral (left).
In 2017 a link was established between Soroptomists International Canterbury and Canterbury Amnesty Group, in recognition that both groups share many goals and that our work, particularly on women’s issues, can be more effective if we support each other. For more information check out the following link – http://sigbi.org/canterbury/
Newcomers are always welcome!
If you have an interest in human rights and would like to get involved with Amnesty Canterbury’s work, come along to next group meeting. All information about upcoming events can be found on the ‘events’ tab above!
We hold group meetings at 7:00pm on the second Wednesday of every month. Check out the ‘Events’ page for more information.
COVID 19 – Our monthly meetings have been cancelled until further notice – please keep an eye on the events page once social distancing measures start to be relaxed.
In the meantime letters in support of prisoners of conscience can still be send personally – please see the Urgent Action tab for our suggestions.
Dear Amnesty Canterbury I have just joined Amnesty International and am making contact. Best wishes Brian McHenry (former government lawyer and former vicar, now living in Canterbury)
Hi Brian
Sorry for the delay in responding – I missed your comment on the Website.
I will forward your mail to Huw Kyffin, our Chair, to make contact and let you know about the meetings which are taking place electronically at the moment.
Kind regards
Mike Wheeler
