Canterbury Women’s Rights sub-group helped organise a successful conference on the role of women in society for 150 Year 10 girls at Simon Langton Girls Grammar School. Speakers included a local councillor, an airline pilot, a bus mechanic, a founder of a local charity and Kate Allen, Director of Amnesty UK, who gave an inspirational talk. The picture shows the girls discussing topics such as ‘Men enjoy argument and politics more than women, so are best placed to be involved in politics’ and ‘The greatest challenge facing feminism is apathy and a sense that the battles have been fought and won’.
It is hoped that this conference will continue to be an annual event. Canterbury Group will follow up the girls’ request to help them re-establish an Amnesty Group at the school.
